About the workshop

Explore the relationship between form, surface, and function in this hands-on wheel-throwing workshop. Through a combination of demonstrations, guided exercises, and experimentation led by Kiefer, you’ll be encouraged to think beyond simply making a technically successful piece and instead develop forms that feel intentional, expressive and uniquely your own.

We’ll explore how proportion, weight, balance, and surface treatment can work together to create pottery that is both beautiful and functional. Along the way, you’ll have space to experiment, take creative risks and embrace the unexpected qualities that emerge when working intuitively with clay.

You will also have the opportunity to experiment with layered surfaces, slip, carving, and texture to add depth and visual interest to your forms.

This workshop is an opportunity to experiment and develop a more intuitive relationship with the potter's wheel while creating work that reflects your own sense of form and expression.

Please note that this workshop is catered to those with prior wheel-throwing experience.

About Kiefer

Kiefer Floreal is a Winnipeg-based ceramic artist, educator, national presenter, and grant recipient whose work explores the intersection of function, storytelling, and place. In 2026, Kiefer was selected as a presenter at Fusion, Canada's largest and most prestigious clay and glass conference, where he shared his approach to pushing creative boundaries through ceramics. He has also been featured on The Great Canadian Pottery Throw Down and continues to establish himself as a respected voice in Canada's contemporary ceramics community.
